Start as you mean to go on...
1 Ball to start

Learn to Juggle with Franko:

The basic idea: Throw the ball in an arch shape, making sure it peaks in front of the destination shoulder

Begin with one ball in your dominant hand (i.e. the one with which you write). Using a scooping motion from the outside towards the centre of your body throw the ball to around eye height, peaking above the opposing shoulder.

Your other hand will catch the ball on the outside of your body, then scoop it in towards your hips ready to throw it back.

You need to be able to do this in both directions, with as regular a rhythm as possible. Listening to the Rolling Stones helps...

Remember the arch shape - not unlike the logo of that fast-food outlet with the scary clown who loves his mum.

Now it's time for number two...

Using the on-line lessons:

The movies may well be clearer than the words, so watch them before you start. When watching the movies, if you're right handed, copy the jugglers hands, and if your left handed (a sign of intelligence), imagine the screen is a mirror.
All being well, you should be juggling within a day. With practice, you could be better than me within twenty-five hours!

You can do it. Honest!
2 Balls

The 2- ball changeover:

The basic idea: Throw the second ball when the first one peaks.

Begin with one ball in your each hand. Using a scooping motion from the outside towards the centre of your body throw the ball from your dominant hand first, just as you did in lesson one.

Once the first ball reaches it's apex ( It's highest point.), you need to throw the second ball under it. You don't need to alter your technique to throw the second ball under the first, as just throwing it at the right time will do. It's far simpler than it seems, the animation may be easier to understand than the text. Remember, you can do it!

Now it's time for the third...

Complete 3 Ball Juggle
3 Balls continuous

3 Balls & you're juggling!

The basic idea: Throw each ball after the previous one peaks, with a steady rhythm.

Begin with two balls in your dominant hand. Throw the ball furthest from your body first, then the second as you did in lesson two. When the second ball peaks, throw the third. Remember that you should be alternating the throwing and catching hands.

Rhythm is vitally important here, it will come with time! You can control the height (and therefore speed) of the balls simply by moving your line of sight up & down. Try it!

Remember the arch shape, and be patient.

Runaway Juggling Balls

Juggling Troubleshooting Guide:

The balls are running away from me!

If your juggling balls are taking every opportunity they get to run away from you (known among jugglers as "The Widdicombe Effect"), there is a solution! In order to combat this, you need to make an exaggerated response: try to throw the balls over your shoulders instead of just straight up and down. This will bring them back under your control.
Some find it helps to imagine yourself inside a 'phone box. Like superman perhaps...

I can't slow down!
3 Ball Start

It's all moving too quickly!

Need to slow down? The most effective method for speed control is to change the height to which you throw the balls. The lower they go, the faster they move. Lift your eye-line a little, this should slow things down. Don't over do it though, because if you do...

Totally out of control
3 Ball Start

The balls are totally out of control!

There are many possible reasons why the balls are all over the place. If you've ruled out the above two problems, there is another common cause.
If you are throwing the balls too high you lose most of the control. Although throwing higher buys you more time between catches, it can be a false economy. Try dropping your line of sight, so that your head is pointing straight ahead or lower.

I'm going crackers!

A big part of learning any new skill is the "I'll never get this bl**dy thing !#*?!" stage.
I've been there, you may be there, even Jack Bremlov* has been there. Sit down, have a cup of tea or a Jack Daniel's and come back later. Once your head is refreshed, you'll come back and surprise yourself.
Don't let this become a chore - it's meant to be a bit of fun. If you really can't crack it, mail me for help.

*Jack Bremlov is a Czechoslovakian juggler, and the first person in the world to juggle seven juggling clubs. Only a handful of people have learnt this skill since.
